From A Freelancer In Dubai To A Silicon Valley Funded Startup
I still remember that day when I woke up and saw the headlines saying, “All E-scooter sharing companies banned in Dubai.” I stood there in shock while the feeling of failure enveloped me. All the hard work, time, and effort I put into my startup (E-scooter sharing company, Dash Mobility), wasted. A year of my life, Gone!
I couldn’t digest the failure. I spent the next couple of days thinking about my career and what job I would get, waiting to start the life I dreaded the most. I applied to all the places I could find. A month went by and no response. I gathered up the courage that I had left and decided to give entrepreneurship another try. I started by freelancing and offered digital marketing and web design services to small businesses to get some cash flowing. In a couple of months, I found myself leading a team of developers and building complex, customized enterprise software for reputable clients. Things started to take shape better than I thought.
The next month, we won our first competition, Angel Hackathon among 18 startups, and got a free business license, 1K$ in funding and an office space for a year, thanks to DTEC. We are one of the 5 companies in the entire gulf to be selected for the Gulf Business Innovation Awards and Today, I am proud to say that my company, Hulexo Technologies, has been funded by one of the best and the most renowned VC fund/accelerator programs not only in Silicon Valley but all over the world. 500 Startups!! We are thrilled to be a part of 500 Startup’s distinguished 3-month acceleration program and can’t wait for this exciting journey that lies ahead of us.
I could never have been able to do what I do now If I hadn’t made the mistakes, I made in my previous startup. Life has its beautiful ways of teaching you. To all those who are on this scary road of entrepreneurship, I want you guys to know, effort and experience never go to waste, and there is no failure, only learning. Don’t be afraid of failing. Every success story is a tale of constant adaption, Change, and revision. So start learning today, make mistakes, fail fast, and then rise again better, stronger, and smarter.
